The SkyPath has passed another council hurdle, but the Northcote Residents Association says the vote was illegal.

Auckland Council's Finance Committee has voted in favour of the public private partnership.

Association chair Kevin Clarke said advice from a top local government barrister is that yesterday's vote was in contravention of the council's statutory obligations.

Mr Clarke said it's disappointing the council seems prepared to take no notice of the law and are undertaking an agreement with risks that it doesn't understand.
