The man accused of killing New Zealand woman Warriena Wright in the Gold Coast balcony death has changed his name.

Brisbane newspaper the Courier-Mail says Gable Tostee is now known as Eric Thomas, after changing his name by deed poll.

He has also listed his occupation as "witch" on his Facebook profile, apparently repeating the assertion he was the victim of a media witch-hunt.

In November, the 28-year-old pleaded not guilty to a murder charge and was bailed, awaiting trial over the death of Ms Wright.

He was jailed this week on unrelated charges relating to a drunken, high-speed police pursuit that happened in July.
