An elderly woman allegedly murdered at her Christchurch home this month can be named.
Frances Anne “Faye” Phelps was found dead at her home in the hillside suburb of Mt Pleasant on October 7.
A man, who has interim name suppression, was arrested and accused of killing Phelps three days before she was found.
This morning, the man appeared from custody at the High Court in Christchurch, after appearing in the district court earlier in the month charged with murder.
Justice Cameron Mander remanded the man in custody without plea until his next court date on December 12.
His name – and some other details of the case – remain suppressed.
However, an interim suppression order relating to Phelps lapsed today.
Police earlier confirmed that she knew the man charged in relation to her death.

After the man was charged, Detective Inspector Scott Anderson moved to “reassure our community that this was an isolated incident” and that police were not seeking anyone else in relation to Phelps’ death.
“Police are working closely with Victim Support to support the victim’s family at this very distressing and difficult time,” he said.
