The Ministry of Primary Industries is urging Kiwis to keep an eye out for any stray wallabies.
It comes as population estimates indicate there are more than one million wallabies living in New Zealand.
Leaving biosecurity security officials aiming to reduce the population due to the macropod species causing millions of dollars in damage each year - to New Zealand's native bush and wildlife.
Biosecurity New Zealand’s director of response, John Walsh says if left unchecked, wallabies could cost New Zealanders around $84 million a year in damages to the environment.
He says reporting wallaby sightings can prevent new populations establishing in New Zealand.
