Fresh footage has emerged, purportedly from Auckland's Mt Eden Prison, showing inmates drinking, smoking drugs and using a guard's radio.

It was sent to both One and 3 News.

The footage comes in the same week revelations of organised fight clubs emerged from the prison, which is run by private operator Serco.

Labour's Corrections spokesman Kelvin Davis said it just goes from bad to worse.

He said Serco is "just an absolute nightmare...a disgrace."

Davis said this type of behaviour is what happens when private companies try to make money from running prisons and leave prisoners unsupervised due to lack of staff.

The Corrections Minister has stated Serco's contract to run the Mt Eden prison will be reviewed if it's found prisoner safety has been compromised and processes haven't been followed.
