Hawke's Bay Police are hunting for two men who tried to entice a 12-year-old girl into their car on her way to school.

The Havelock North Intermediate student was walking along Guppie Road yesterday morning, when a car pulled up beside her and two men offered her a ride to school.

Detective Jeff Foley says the males were persistent and continued driving beside her and seemed to find it humorous, even as she ran from them.

He says the girl is feeling panicked and upset by the incident.

Police are looking for a small, white four-door rusty car.
