Latest figures from the Real Estate Institute show there's been a marked rise in Auckland house prices with the median price rising from $750,000 February to $820,000 last month.
Finance Minister Bill English said we need more speed on supply.
"The Government's cranking up its own supply, particularly through surplus crown land," he said. "The council's made extensive efforts, but it's still got more to do."
Meanwhile, the Labour Party is accusing the Government of feathering the pockets of its friends with a failing housing policy.
In response to the new real estate figures, Labour MP Phil Twyford said it's clear the measures the Government put in place last year to control house prices have had a minimal effect.
"The National Government doesn't want to do anything meaningful about the housing crisis, because their mates at the top end are making big money from this housing crisis."
