Mass power outages have struck two suburbs in Central Auckland, with residents reportedly hearing a loud bang before going dark.
The first outage, covering a large area of Newmarket and Grafton, was reported to Vector – Auckland’s electricity distributor – at 2.58pm and remains unresolved.
“We estimate that power will be restored to all affected properties between 5.30pm – 6.30pm today. If we’re able to reroute electricity from another direction, then we may be able to restore some properties before the estimated restoration time,” an update on Vector’s website at 4.14pm read.
Meanwhile, a new outage in Grey Lynn was reported shortly after 6pm, with Vector saying the reason was “uncertain at this time”. Vector was on its way to investigate the outage just before 6.30pm.
Vector has not responded to the Herald’s queries about the outages. It is not clear how many people have been affected by a loss of power.
Stuff reported residents on Cockburn St in Grey Lynn heard a loud bang before the electricity went off.
