A man has been found guilty of a deliberately mowing down a police officer in Napier.

Robbie Richards is guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

It took the jury at the Napier District Court just over two hours to reach its verdict.

The 28 year old was trying to avoid a drink drive check point in Clive a year ago, when he deliberately drove into Constable Adam Blummont.

The officer's still on light duties, after the hit and run caused serious leg injuries and cuts and grazes to his face.
