Those heading away for the long weekend are being warned to drive cautiously as traffic will be heavier than usual.
The New Zealand Transport Agency's Highway Manager of Auckland and Northland, Brett Gliddon reckons that because ANZAC day has been Mondayised for the first time this year, it's likely people will make the most of the long weekend.
He says crashes are easily avoided by following standard rules, and the public needs to be aware that some roads will be closed, and traffic is likely to be busier than usual
"Plan head, allow plenty of time. If they can leave a bit later if they're heading North or South that always helps if we can spread the peak. And if they can't do that and if they do leave at peak time, just be patient and drive to the conditions."
"They should plan ahead and think about where they're going to park and get there nice and early."
