The Onehunga Enhancement Society says it'll support the East-West Link plan, provided significant changes are made.
The one-point-eight-five billion dollar project - planned by the previous National Government - was placed under review after the election.
It will now go ahead at a lower cost.
Onehunga Enhancement Society chairman Jim Jackson says the original route would have split Onehunga in half, isolated the port, and severed a connection between Onehunga and the Mangere Bridge town centre.
"It should actually go from Onehunga to Highbrook and that could entail a tunnel under Richmond and a tunnel under the Tamaki River."
Under the previous Government's plan, the link would've connected State Highway 20 at Onehunga, and State Highway 1 at Mt Wellington.
