UPDATED 11.43AM: The husband of the late Lecretia Seales is urging the public to speak up on the issue of assisted dying in New Zealand with now only two weeks left to make submissions to the Health Select Committee.

Seales passed away last year after she was unsuccessful in seeking a High Court ruling to allow her doctor to help her die without criminal prosecution.

Lecretia's husband Matt Vickers said terminally ill New Zealanders should be allowed to have a quick painless death if they choose it, and he is fighting for legislation that reflects that.

He said there's been broad support for assisted dying in New Zealand, but it's now really important for those who do support it to actually participate in the process and make submissions to the select committee.

"Lecretia worked really hard and what she's essentially won is a chance for the New Zealand public to be heard on the issue of assisted dying, so it is really important that if New Zealanders hold views about this that they make submissions to the select committee."

Information about how to make a submission can be found on lecretia.org.

However that parliamentary committee is being blasted as biased from the outset.

ACT leader David Seymour points out that the Health Select Committee has asked for submissions on suicide, which is a totally different issue to euthanasia.

But he says the public can still make submissions that show they understand the difference.

"Suicide is a sad and irrational thing. Having a choice about the manner and timing of your own death when you already have a terminal condition is quite different and deserves to be aired."
