New Zealanders are still getting poisoned by lead-based paint.
Lead was taken out of paint for domestic uses gradually between the 1940's and 70's, but in 2014 there were 130 lead notifications.
Men between the age of 45 and 64 are being poisoned the most, but children are also being exposed.
Massey University Associate Professor Deborah Read said most people are exposed when they renovate old houses.
"Any house built before the 1980's may still have layers that contain lead in the paint."
Eight of those affected were children under the age of 15.
Ms Read said although more adults than children are exposed, exposure is worse for a child.
"Children's brains are still undergoing development and even a low level of lead to a child can interfere with a developing brain."
