Embedding an ICT Centre in the middle of Wellington's tech hub will help students keep up with the changing industry.
An ICT graduate school is to be set up in the capital - it will be a partnership between Victoria University, WelTec, and Whitireia.
Tertiary Education minister Steven Joyce says the one year course will allow students to go through a hot-house period, and end up working with tech companies.
"And the trick of it is making sure the companies are in alongside the ICT graduate schools, because the other thing about ICT is that it changes rapidly as we know," he said.
