The mayors of Napier and Hastings are looking forward to today's amalgamation result coming out.
Voting closes at midday today - with the result being released at 4pm.
Locals have been voting for three weeks on whether five councils should merge into one super council.
Napier mayor Bill Dalton who is anti amalgamation, says he's not going to predict the result.
"I'm relaxed because we've done everything we can to get the message across to the people of the Hawke's Bay, and they've had an opportunity to vote."
Dalton said the current system doesn't need this amalgamation proposal.
"We should be building on that system rather than trying an untried system. I mean it's a ridiculous idea that we should have a territory the size of the proposal."
Hastings mayor Lawrence Yule says he's feeling good after five years of campaigning for amalgamation.
"It's had its ups and downs, been extremely stimulating at times, difficult at others. I'm just waiting for the results to come out."
"We're losing our competitiveness, and I just don't think 5 Chief Executives, 5 different Mayors and 5 different plans is going to get us where we need to be."
However both mayors do agree that some improvements have to be made with local government in the region.
