A Hastings mother caught drink driving while taking her children to school has been disqualified from driving for 14 months.

Beverley Hale pleaded guilty earlier this year to refusing to give a blood sample, dangerous driving and two mistreatment of children charges.

Suspicions arose when she was seen driving erratically at 9 o'clock in the morning in Hastings in May this year.

She crossed the centre line and struck a parked car while trying to do u-turn.

She had just dropped off her daughter to school when police caught up with her.

No child restraints were in the car which led to the mistreatment charges.

Judge Bridget Mackintosh said it was a fairly awful situation with children aged 2 and 5 standing up in the car while she was driving all over the show on the road.

Judge Mackintosh sentenced Hale to four months community detention and three months of intensive supervision.
