'Dirty Politics' author Nicky Hager is challenging the police raid on his home by launching a judicial review.

His lawyers have released a statement saying Mr Hager believes the police acted outside the law when they seized documents and computers from his home on October 2.

Mr Hager says as a journalist, his documents are protected by privilege, because they contain confidential information about his sources.

Meanwhile, police are filing their own proceedings to take Hager to court.

They're arguing there's no valid claim for privilege, and they should be able to review the documents they've seized.
