The government's being asked to consider a ban on police pursuits.
It comes as investigations begin into a triple-fatal crash which followed a police pursuit near Nelson yesterday.
AA motoring affairs spokesperson Mike Noon says New Zealand needs to look across the Tasman, where pursuits have been practically outlawed in Queensland and Tasmania.
"I just think it's something that we should be keeping an eye on, and reviewing how it is working in other places and maybe we'll look at changing the policy in New Zealand," he said.
The comment has also drawn qualified support from the Police Association, with president Chris Cahill saying all options should be on the table.
