The Wellington Night Shelter is at crisis point and desperately seeking more funding.
The shelter is currently on a three-year contract with the Wellington City Council for $95,000 worth of funding.
However an administration mistake has meant the shelter missed the deadline to submit a funding application with the Lotteries Commission.
The organisation appealed to the council's Community, Sport and Recreation Committee meeting yesterday for a further $30,000.
Spokesman Chris Graham said they've never been in this position before.
"This is our first approach to the council for additional funding of an emergency nature.
"We'll be happy to be guided by the officers of council as to what appropriate direction we need to head in".
The council will consider the grant at a full meeting next week.
