Overall, food prices rose 1.3% last month - driven by a 8.3% seasonal rise in the cost of fruit and veges. .
The January rise means food prices have risen by 1.2% in the past year. .
But, if you're looking at just groceries, prices have fallen - they're down 1.7% in the past year.
Statistics NZ says that's because the cost of bread's fallen dramatically - down 12% as supermarkets discount their "own brands".
Chocolate, butter, and cheese have also fallen in price - but milk is costing more.
