Armed police have descended on a Pukekohe this afternoon and ordered residents to stay inside after a “firearms incident”.
Four people have been treated for injuries after the incident at 1pm in Pukekohe, South Auckland, a Hato Hone St John spokesperson said.
Three people in a moderate condition and one in serious condition have been transported to hospital, they said.
St John responded with four ambulances, four rapid response vehicles and two managers.
A police spokesperson said officers were called to Birdwood Road East, Pukekohe at about 12.50pm after reports of a “firearms incident”.
“Cordons remain in place while inquiries are ongoing and locals can expect an increased police presence in the area for the time being.”
A video supplied to the Herald showed armed police gathered on Birdwood Rd in Pukekohe where a crowd of people could be seen standing close together.
A witness told the Herald they saw a police Eagle helicopter hovering over the street.
When they went outside they saw a swarm of armed police officers with dogs at the left end.
“The ambulance got here about 20 minutes ago.
“Police have put spikes on our road too. We have been told to stay inside.”
A resident said she heard several police cars come to her street.
”The whole night people were up there playing music and shouting their lungs out not considering the neighbours’ peace at all,” they said.
