Some forestry workers have been left without a job, and without a car after being laid off without any warning.
Northland regional councillor Joe Carr says forestry giant HarvestPro New Zealand sent the 100 workers home without notice.
Some had to walk 30 kilometres home after their company cars were taken from them at the gates.
Joe Carr says he's working with contractors to find jobs for the workers, but admits it could take some time.
