A big fire is threatening houses in Hororata in Canterbury tonight, with 18 crews and two helicopters battling the blaze.
The fire is well ablaze and moving into nearby vegetation.
A Fire Service spokesman says they were called out at 7.15 this evening.
High winds aren't helping the effort to deal with the fire.
