Wellington is set to host its first Super Rugby final this Saturday, when the Hurricanes take on the Highlanders at Westpac Stadium.

A sell-out crowd of over 36,000 people will attend the game, with around 20 percent of the crowd coming from out of town.

The 30,000 tickets to the game sold out within 59 seconds when they went on sale on Monday, with fans queuing overnight in the freezing cold for a chance to get their hands on the tickets.

Positively Wellington Tourism chief executive David Perks said everyone is getting behind the game, which is expected to bring in around $8 million into the local economy.

"Wellington is buzzing, everyone has got flags on their cars, and, yeah, everyone is buzzing and can't wait for it to happen."

July is traditionally a slow time for tourism, so this will bring a much-needed boost to the local economy.

The weather is predicted to be fine for game-day, with Metservice's Peter Little saying Wellington looks set to turn it on.

"It does at this stage look like it is going to be good weather for running rugby. It should be dry and at a temperature around about 9 degrees for spectators."

Down in Highlanders turf, Dunedin is turning into a sea of blue and gold ahead of the much-anticipated final.

Fans can join in the excitement, watching the game live on the big screen at the Town Hall Family Fanzone.

Marilyn Anderson, from Dunedin City Council, said there's a charged atmosphere around the city, and there are Highlanders flags flying from just about every flag pole in Dunedin.

"I went to some of the shops to try and get some blue and gold balloons, there's none to be had anywhere in the city," Anderson said.

The game kicks off at 7.35 tomorrow evening.
