AUDIO: MP Damien O'Conner speaks to Mike Hosking about Alex Renton and medicinal cannabis.Â
The political fight for access to medicinal cannabis treatment will continue following the death of Nelson teenager Alex Renton.
The 19-year-old died last night surrounded by family after a highly publicised battle to use medicinal cannabis oil for treatment of his seizures.
Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne last month granted him special dispensation to use CBD.
West Coast MP Damien O'Connor has said he is determined to continue work on a member's bill for better access to CBD.
"I'm committed to ... commemorate that battle that Alex has had and to ensure that people like him, whatever their age, have access to all the tools available to try and give them better health."
There's been an outpouring of sadness and support on social media for Renton and his family.Â
O' Connor has been supporting the family, and admits it's a tough time.
"I know a lot of people have been fighting with the family for Alex to try and will him better, to try and find anything that could help him. I guess they have to work through a really difficult time now."
