A man involved in a crash with Tauranga's mobile library bus has died.

Police have confirmed one of two men has died after their red Astra collided with the bus outside the Faith Bible College on Welcome Bay Road.

The bus wasn't occupied at the time.

Emergency services working to free the car's other occupant.

Both men had been trapped.

The road has been closed and people are asked to avoid the area if possible.
