End of an era for Real Groovy store

It's the last day music lovers can buy records from the old home of Auckland's iconic music store Real Groovy.

The store, which has been located at 438 Queen Street for 25 years, has already moved to its new home at 369 Queen Street.

Owner Chris Hart said while the old store has been busy recently with many loyal customers coming in for nostalgic reasons he's not sad at all to be moving, and there's a lot to look forward to.

"The old store is an old building, it's crumbling, it's not that great a place, the air conditioning doesn't work. We're moving to an amazing space which is going to be cool and clean and tidy with much better facilities - it won't have sewerage bubbling up from the kitchen floor."

Mr Hart said Real Groovy has never stayed the same, and is constantly changing it to meet the needs of its customers.

He said the new store will be less grungy, and is absolutely perfect for them.

"This is something really special and we've been able to have a completely separate vinyl section in the basement which is huge and it has amazing views of Myers Park. The whole place is really quite special, it's something else."
