Christians are observing what many consider the most holy day of the year.

Easter Sunday marks the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

Bishop of Auckland, Patrick Dunn, says it's a fitting time to reflect on what's important.

"The message of Easter really, speaks really loudly and clearly that to each and everyone that yes, there is more than just this life."

He expects are a large number of people to attend Catholic services around the country.

"Easter Sunday is the great festival really for all Christians, it's the day on which we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead."
