The lack of rain in the Bay of Plenty has sparked concerns over lake levels.
Lake Rotoiti is 50 millimetres below its minimum level and other lakes in the district are also very low.
The regional council's taking steps to try maintain lake levels, using the Okere Gates to control in and out flow.
Council spokesman Graeme O'Rourke says until the area gets significant rain, the lake levels will remain low.
