A woman has been charged after a crash that killed an 11-year-old girl cycling in the Hawke’s Bay suburb of Flaxmere on Thursday evening. 

A police spokesperson said that a 34-year-old woman is set to appear in Hastings District Court, charged with driving in a dangerous manner. They had not ruled out further charges. 

The fatal crash happened on Chatham Rd just before 6pm. 

A St John spokesperson said they responded to the incident about 5.55pm and sent one ambulance, one rapid response vehicle, and one operations manager. 

Police say they were not in pursuit of the vehicle at the time of the crash. 

Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
