A helicopter pilot who crashed in the Westland National Park on Saturday morning is now in a serious but stable condition.
The Civil Aviation Authority will send safety investigators to the scene of the wreckage today, to make a preliminary assessment.
After a problem taking off, the 24-year-old pilot crashed on Poerua Glacier on the West Coast.
The pilot was trapped in the cockpit before being taken to Christchurch Hospital.
Two hunters onboard suffered minor injuries.
