Not enough is being done to stop people drinking in the Wellington's parks, according to a city Councillor.
Simon Woolf took a walk around Wellington on Sunday morning, after a number of concerned residents got in touch, saying they feared for their safety in the inner city.
He said it wasn't a pretty sight.
"Waitangi Park for instance had lots of broken glass, lots of evidence of people drinking, lots of bottles" he said, describing the scene. "And lots of bottles strewn into the reeds and the natural environment areas, and it wasn't pleasant."
"I think these people are actually purchasing alcohol elsewhere and having a darn good time in our public places when they shouldn't be, and they're causing people to feel vulnerable."
Woolf thinks the city is not making the most of legislation that allows for spot fines to be handed out to people breaking liquor bylaws.
