The depiction of gavels is a sore point.

The Law Society's Geoff Adlam highlights one court story when a gavel was used, saying in jest the story must be American, because gavels aren't used in New Zealand Courts.

He says New Zealand judges have never used gavels and jokingly wonders whether kiwi journalists even go to court anymore.
