Construction has begun on the new $25 million shared path connecting Waterview and Mt Albert.
Wally Thomas, General Manager of Communications at Auckland Transport said more people are choosing to get on bikes.
He said it's a case of if you build it, they will come.
"So every cycle path we've built in the last 3-4 years has seen literally thousands of people using it within weeks of them being built."
Mr Thomas said it's about giving people the choice to get where they want, how they want, when they want.
He said the path has a lot to offer Auckland City.
"It's a particularly beautiful route going through bush, across bridges, across the Oakley Creek, it will be a really beautiful ride."
The 25 million dollar project is due to be completed early next year.
