UPDATED 1.41pm: A controversial community-owned wind farm could run out of puff, after it was declined resource consent today.
The Blueskin Resilient Communities Trust offered a proposal to erect three 90 metre wind turbines.
The turbines would have been built on Porteous Hill above Blueskin Bay, at a cost of between $5-6 million.
The trust was notified of the decision earlier this morning.
Commissioner Colin Weatherall said it was a tough decision that could have gone either way.
"It's not a heart decision, it's a head decision."
"It's important to deal with the facts - the RMA (Resource Management Act) is quite directive in the matters that we need to address and how we work through them, and the decision covers that."
The decision is subject to an appeal period of 15 working days.
