The Mayor of the Hauraki District is praising the resilience of people in storm-hit Kaiaua, as the settlement faces months of clean-up work.
John Tregidga said people in the Firth of Thames settlement are holding up well during a stressful time.
Along with homes, many septic tanks were flooded in the storm, and they're facing the prospect of temporary facilities for months to come.
Mr Tregidga said the flooding is the worst he's seen in 30 years.
''They've had flooding in the area before, but not from the sea.
''You need to see it to believe it. It was such a powerful force, it has caused substantial damage and the clean-up is going to take many months.''
Meanwhile, some people are still waiting to get their power back on, after this week's storm.
Vector has nine outages across the north and west of the Auckland region - it's expecting to have repairs completed this morning.
Powerco is working to get power back to about 1500 customers in Coromandel and Bay of Plenty.
The largest cluster is at Matamata in Waikato, where more than 400 properties are off.
