The owner of a Christchurch construction company disputes claims a former employee is owed thousands.

Canterbury-based building firm Welstruct is going into liquidation and sister-company Welhaus is winding down.

Kerry Oberholzer, who worked for both companies for about 11 months, claims she is owed $12,000 in wages.

Company director Dan Tremawan that's not the case.

"She was paid in full according to our records. If there's a grievance or something, that's a different story, and that can be dealt with by mediation."

Tremawan says wages were sometimes late because they were owed hundreds of thousands of dollars by the party they're sub-contracted to.

"If she has a genuine grievance, we want to give her a fair hearing, so I've agreed to turn up and hear it. That's the right thing to do."
