Relief for thousands of Canterbury homeowners still waiting for compensation six years on from the fatal earthquake.
A Court of Appeal has confirmed they can challenge Southern Response as a class action, rather than as individuals.
The matter is now likely to be heard in the High Court, although is still subject to appeal.
Southern Response Class Action solicitor Grant Cameron said it's an important moment.
"The way has been cleared for the class action to get on and I think the court of appeal has expressed natural frustration at these proceedings having being held up so long."
He said the way has been cleared for the homeowners
"We think the new Government will probably take a great interest in now getting the matter moving forward so yes we expect action."
