A man has been arrested and charged with sexual violation at a Christchurch dance school.

Police say the 52-year-old Christchurch man was giving massages when the alleged offending took place.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson says police are working to build a full picture of what happened.

He says they want to hear from anyone who has attended a Christchurch dance school and has concerns about similar behaviour.

"We take complaints such as this very seriously and there are no time limits on reporting such allegations," he said.

The man is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on Friday.
