Methamphetamine is becoming alarmingly easy to access in Christchurch.
Addiction service Odyssey House is seeing an influx of new referrals, almost three times the number before the quakes.
Manager Katie Dainter said it usually takes six years for someone to seek help after they first try the drug, which explains why the spike is happening now.
She said it's been a shock.
"Just how available this is in Christchurch - we're just getting more and more reports of it being so normalised within young people, older people. It's all demographics."
Dainter said many with addictions started after the earthquakes.Â
She said Christchurch now has just as many referrals as Auckland and Northland.
"As the meth problem increases, we're busy and we're busy all the time. Talk to any AOD service in Christchurch and they're all pretty under the pump," she said.
