There's a fair bit of monkeying around in the competition to name Hamilton Zoo's baby chimp.

Chimpy McChimpface has been a rather popular suggestion for the two-month-old girl, who was born to parents Sanda and Luka in February.

Hamilton Zoo said while they're not sure about that particular moniker, all names will be considered.

Other frivolous suggestions include Monique the Monkey, Deadpool, John Key, Queen Kong, and Rangi.

The Zoo team are actually looking for something with a nod to central or western Africa, the natural chimpanzee habitat - and many of the suggestions do fit that brief.

The winner will get an annual zoo pass so they can visit the chimp they named as much as they like.
