A child is in critical condition after nearly drowning at a private address just outside Christchurch.
St John spokeswoman Ngaire Jones said an ambulance was called to the Rolleston scene just before 4pm.
The young boy is now in a critical condition at Christchurch Hospital, Jones said. ​
