Wellington's mayor is in San Francisco, hoping to develop a sister city relationship.
Celia Wade-Brown says there are a number of important, but casual relationships between the two cities.
"Already there is some exchange between people. There are a number of people from San Francisco now setting up companies in New Zealand."
She said the two cities have a lot in common, and a lot to offer each other.
"Sometimes with sister cities it takes time for those depth of networks to bear fruit. But we think it's really worthwhile."
