The RSA is brainstorming ways to adapt to New Zealand becoming an increasingly cashless society.

President BJ Clark said its too hard to say how much people's lack of coins is affecting their take, but collectors are noticing it more and more.

"Less and less people are carrying cash so that is one of the reasons we've come up with other options."

The RSA is using a "text to donate service" as well as trialing a 3D poppy.

"We've tried 3D poppies so that the people can purchase a disk that allows them, with these new 3D printers, to actually print out their own 3D poppy. I've seen the result and it's quite amazing actually

Mr Clark said their take is likely to be down on last year given the publicity there was around it being a centaury since the Gallipoli landings.

He said currently kitting out collectors with eftpos machines doesn't make financial sense.
