Animal rights campaigners believe the "barbaric practices" uncovered in Australia's greyhound industry could be happening in New Zealand.
A new report's found instances of letting live bait be mauled to death by greyhounds, or torturing and killing dogs if they weren't winning races, in Queensland.
Greyhound Protection League spokesperson Emily Robertson told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking we need a similar investigation in New Zealand.
"Considering our race industry, they're so similar, they're both self regulating.
"There's the inherent conflict of interest in the self regulation. There definitely needs to be an inquiry here as well. An independent one."
