Greenpeace is calling for a full and independent inquiry into the oversight of the fishing industry after another leaked report appears to shows the agency in charge knew about over-fishing.
Executive director Russel Norman says the report shows industrial-scale under-reporting of the catch numbers of the Southern Blue Whiting fish.
Greenpeace says it appears the Ministry of Primary Industries knew the fishing industry under-reported hundreds of tonnes of fish, which saved the companies millions of dollars - and did nothing about it.
It says MPI cannot be trusted to tell the truth or regulate the industry properly, when they themselves are captured by the fishing companies.
