Aranui Primary School's last students will walk from its Christchurch grounds today.

The school has been operating for 105 years.

It's one of three primary schools in the area closing after this term to make way for the Haeata Community Campus for Years 1 to 13.

Board Chairman Tim Baker said Aranui Primary had a reunion last week and there's a lot of sadness about the closure today.

He said the Government has made the transition extremely hard.

"The Ministry of Education have been terrible, I blame it on Parata," Baker said.

"They could have done things much easier and smoother but we've managed to get through it, and the stress is almost gone now."

The other primary schools that are feeding into the Haeata Community Campus are Wainoni and Avondale.

Parata will not be standing for election again in 2017.
