A large grass fire has broken out on Auckland’s Southern Motorway causing significant delays between Drury and Ramarama.

NZTA advises motorists to pass the scene with extra care this afternoon.

Large clouds of smoke have filled the side of the motorway with flames encroaching nearby power pylons.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand and the police have been approached for comment.

The motorway is not closed at this stage but traffic is down to one lane past the fire.
