A successful emergency housing programme in Christchurch could be followed in Auckland.
The Government's announced a $2 million investment in organisations that provide emergency housing in Auckland.
It follows a government-funded pilot programme in Christchurch run by West Auckland's VisionWest Community Trust.
Chief executive Lisa Woolley said it's helped get families into homes and "making sure we've got enough support going in their afterward to help them maintain that tenancy."
Woolley believes Auckland also needs more social housing for people to live in long-term.
She said people need to go into emergency housing if there's no other alternative, but they need houses to go through to.
The government is already funding the trust's emergency housing programme for Christchurch families.
