The Holiday Parks Association is supporting a South Island campground's ban on Wicked Camper vans but has stopped short of encouraging others to follow suit.
Anyone now driving a Wicked van won't be welcome at the popular Kaiteriteri campground in Abel Tasman, with staff fed up with the offensive slogans tagged across them.
Association CEO Fergus Brown said the campground is totally within its rights to ban the vans, which can often impact other visitors' experience at a campground.
He said the association isn't calling for a nationwide ban, because that could unfairly punish tourists who don't choose what their van says.
"A lot of times they don't have an option when they pick up their vehicle, they're given that vehicle and it's the only one they've got and if they've had a very busy season they might not have been able to get an alternative vehicle."
Mr Brown said they've been talking to their members about the issue for the last six months.
"Or alternatively, and what some parks have been doing is actually covering up the messages with either tape or rubbish bags and taping over top of it."
